Trusting Myself: Why I Finally Started a Blog

1 of 1

For the longest time, I have dreamed about having a blog. I imagined having a space to share my thoughts and findings throughout my life. I love finding creators or authors that have a down-to-earth presence in how they present themselves to the world around them. I have always wanted to be that source for others. My interest in creating a blog hasn’t just been to create for others, but rather to build a collection of my findings through books, life experiences, podcasts, and my own interests.

I have many notebooks filled with thoughts which filtered through my mind as I listened to various forms of media. More and more of the content that I have consumed lately has highlighted the importance of JUST STARTING the act of what you feel guided to do. The importance of trusting that if something is meant to be, then it will work out. And, worst case scenario, you fail, and you can adjust and try something different.

I wholeheartedly believe that everything happens for a reason, and as individuals, the ideas that continuously show up in your mind and your heart, is the Universe/God/a greater being/or even just your subconscious, highlighting something that you are supposed to try. It could be something small from telling someone you like their hair, to taking the long way to work, or even big things like starting a job in a new town, you never know where life may take you.

I recently read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, and it’s truly been one of the best “self-help” books I have read lately, and I’ve read almost twenty-five books just this year. Gretchen, a married mom of two, is a full-time writer. She had left her job of working in law to pursue her passion of writing and after researching and writing a successful historical biography, she decides to pursue the idea of living a happier life. Gretchen chooses to take on this endeavor not because she is depressed or isn’t happy with her life, rather, she wants to make the most out of the life she has. She spends time researching and reading about happiness, then creates a framework to how she will spend each month building on resolutions she has made for herself.

Gretchen Rubin has a refreshing and honest viewpoint to how she experiences her successes and challenges as she navigates the 12 months of resolutions. A passage from the book really spoke to me, and has pushed me to take the step to publish my first blog post:

“Although I wasn’t even halfway through my happiness project, I could already appreciate that feeling happier made it easier for me to risk failure–or rather, made it easier for me to embrace the fun of failure. A goal like launching a blog was much easier to tackle when I was in a happy frame of mind. Then, once the blog was launched, it became an engine of happiness itself.”

As I mentioned earlier, I wholeheartedly believe that we innately have thoughts of action that happen for a reason. I have wanted to start a blog for myself for years now, beginning as a young adult, and now entering my 27th year of life, and I am ready to embrace the fun of failure. I am doing this for me. I am trusting myself to take action. For me, the final push was reading The Happiness Project.

I invite you to follow along as I discover what this space will become. While I don’t have a content calendar of what I want this blog to be, taking the first step, and another, and seeing where we go, is all I need in order to begin.

If you have read The Happiness Project, please let me know what you thought about it; if you haven’t, I highly recommend you try it 🙂 I would love to hear if you have any other book/podcast/YouTube recommendations.

Everything happens for a reason, and I am so grateful you made it here.
